SWANSEA EAST LABOUR CAMPAIGN

Press Officer Jackie Aplin

29 September 2001 – for immediate release

“E-Campaign” important to Swansea East win

Campaigning via the internet and e-mail played a significant part in Labour’s resounding victory in the Swansea East by election, it has been claimed.

“E-campaigning”, as it is known, is becoming an important part of political campaigning, boosting opportunities to contact voters and mobilise supporters.

A LABOUR SPOKESPERSON said:

“Labour increased its majority and its share of the vote on Thursday – the first time this has happened in any mid term by election in living memory.

“There is no doubt that the party’s growing use of the internet as a campaigning tool played an important part in this result.

“For this election Labour used a new hosting service, Datex UK.  We needed a hosting service that would be reliable and capable of handling a variety of different demands.

“We were so pleased with the service and price that we are now in the process of switching the hosting for our main site to Datex UK.

“The importance of e-campaigning will grow and grow in future years.  We are confident that Welsh Labour’s new alliance with Datex UK will keep us at the head of the pack for innovation.”
